Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of theoretical aspects of the management of the development of spaces and territories. To clarify the conceptual approaches, the main ideas are classified according to the provisions specific to each scientific field (sociology, economics, geography, etc.). The synthesis of the characteristics of the category "development management" allows you to focus on the most significant approaches of each science. Among the determinants of the theories there are adaptive management and human potential development (sociology); innovative economy of a single space; the climatic and natural potential of the area (social geography). It is concluded that the unifying beginning of the complex research process of the stated problem is the effective application of social management methods.
