Abstract

When a family immigrates, they face the pressure of adjusting to new living conditions. These changes can have a significant impact on the family's social status, lifestyle, members, system of value orientations, and motivation for life activities. The considerable migration of families to Russia necessitates the identification of key trends in the transformation of migrant family institutions and the socio-cultural conditions within host societies. It is essential to examine the social impact of this transformation on all parties involved, including the preservation of national socio-cultural identities of families, as well as the social, economic and political development of the region. The article highlights the theoretical and practical importance of migrant family "manifestation" as a migration behavior and sociological research topic, which is still poorly studied. This phenomenon generates new family forms and directly impacts the integration processes of migrants into the host society, the society itself, and the family structure of the local population. The authors faced difficulties in resolving research tasks due to the unavailability of official statistics on family migration, which impedes the estimation of the magnitude of this social phenomenon. To address this issue, they aimed to showcase the applicability of the Fermi method to approximately gauge the growth of family migration based on statistical information pertaining to other quantifiable facets of migration processes. The authors have estimated the approximate number of migrant families entering Russia/Tyumen region during 2017 to 2021 from three CIS countries (the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Republic of Tajikistan). This information can be used for scientific purposes as part of the continuation of family research, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of various state programs of migration and family policy in the region.
